Privacy Policy

The short version

This policy explains what the app stores, where it stores it, and the few places where Apple — not us — is involved.

What we do not do

• We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number or date of birth.
• We do not have servers that receive your data — the app has no account system.
• We do not show ads and we do not work with advertising networks.
• We do not use analytics, crash-reporting or attribution SDKs.
• We do not track you across apps or websites, and we do not use the advertising identifier (IDFA). The App Tracking Transparency prompt is never shown, because there is nothing to track.
• We do not access your contacts, photos, microphone, camera or location.

What the app stores on your device

Everything the app remembers is written to local storage on your iPhone or iPad (Apple's SwiftData database and UserDefaults), inside the app's own sandbox:

• Study progress — your exam and practice attempts, the answers you chose, scores, timings, and the spaced-repetition schedule for each question.
• An unfinished exam — a snapshot so you can resume a test you interrupted.
• Preferences — the state you selected, your target test date, reminder settings and interface options.
• Supervised driving log — the dates, minutes, conditions and notes you enter yourself (see the section below).

A small part of this — your readiness score and the countdown to your test day — is copied into a shared app group container (group.polautsau.MyDMVTest) so the home screen widget, the Live Activity and the Apple Watch app can display it. That container is on the same device and is not synced to us.

You are in control: tap Reset study progress in the app's Settings screen, under Data, to erase your history at any time. Deleting the app removes everything it stored, permanently.

The supervised driving log and signatures

If you use the drive log, you type in your practice hours and, optionally, the name of your supervising driver and their signature, drawn on screen. This information is personal to you and to that person, so it is worth being explicit:

• The name and the signature image are stored only on your device, in the app's local database.
• They are never uploaded, and we never see them.
• When you export the log as a PDF, iOS hands the file to the share sheet and you choose what happens to it — print it, save it to Files, mail it. What happens after that is governed by the app or service you chose, not by us.

Please only record a supervising driver's name and signature with that person's knowledge and agreement.

Purchases

My DMV Test is free to download, and paid Pro plans are sold as in-app purchases through Apple StoreKit. Apple processes the payment. We never receive or have access to your card details, billing address or Apple Account credentials.

The app asks StoreKit one thing — whether this Apple Account currently has an active Pro entitlement — so it knows which features to unlock. That check happens between your device and Apple. Apple's handling of purchase data is covered by the Apple Privacy Policy.

Notifications

Study reminders are optional and entirely local: they are scheduled by the app on your own device and delivered by iOS. There is no push server, so no notification data ever leaves your iPhone. You can turn reminders off in the app's Settings, or in iOS Settings, at any time.

Network access

All questions, road signs and state rules ship inside the app, so it works with no signal at all. The app makes no network requests of its own. The only outbound connections are the ones you start deliberately: tapping a link to your state's official DMV handbook opens it in your browser, and purchases talk to Apple's servers. Those destinations then apply their own privacy policies.

Children

The app is rated 4+ and is often used by teenagers studying for a learner's permit. Because it collects no personal data at all, there is nothing for us to knowingly collect from a child — no registration, no profile, no contact details. This applies equally under the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and comparable rules elsewhere.

Your rights (GDPR, CCPA/CPRA and similar laws)

Laws such as the EU/UK GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act give you the right to access, correct, delete or port the personal data a company holds about you, and to opt out of its sale or sharing.

We hold none. We do not collect, store, sell or share personal information, so there is no file to request and no opt-out to submit. The data described above lives on your device and is yours: view it in the app, reset it in Settings, or delete the app to remove all of it.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of the app changes what it stores or introduces anything that sends data off the device, this page will be updated before that version ships, and the "last updated" date above will change. Material changes will also be noted in the App Store release notes.
